NFL Betting in Canada: Odds, Sportsbooks, Markets and Rules
NFL betting in Canada covers moneyline, point spread, over/under, player prop, same-game parlay, live betting and Super Bowl futures markets. Which of those you can actually reach, and under whose rules, depends on your province and on whether the sportsbook is regulated there.
This guide explains how NFL odds work, which markets Canadian bettors can get, how to compare sportsbooks, and what to know about CAD payments, tax and bet settlement. Further down it covers the parts most guides skip: what a half point through 3 really costs, how teaser and pleaser pushes settle, and which markets include overtime at which book.
Week 9 opens on 5 November. The regular season runs to 10 January 2027 and Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium.
Where the 2026 Season Stands
The season opened on 9 September 2026 and runs 18 weeks to 10 January 2027, with each of the 32 teams playing 17 games and taking one bye.
The Weeks Ahead
| Week | Dates | Teams on bye |
|---|---|---|
| Week 9 | 5 to 9 November | Tennessee, Pittsburgh |
| Week 10 | 12 to 16 November | Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay |
Three international games remain: Madrid on 8 November, Munich on 15 November and Mexico City on 22 November. That makes nine this season, a record. They are scheduled international fixtures, not relocations — a distinction that decides how your bet settles, and the settlement section explains why.
Fourteen teams make the playoffs, seven per conference: four division winners and three wild cards. Only the number one seed in each conference gets a first-round bye, which is what makes that seed worth a futures market of its own. Wild Card weekend is 16 to 18 January 2027, the Divisional round 23 and 24 January, the Conference Championships 31 January, and Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
What Changed in the Rulebook for 2026
Five playing rules were approved for this season. The one with a betting consequence: the kicking team can now declare an onside kick at any point in the game, where in 2025 only a trailing team could use it. That widens the range of late-game scripts, so backdoor covers are marginally more available than the previous rule allowed.
The rest are structural: the incentive to kick out of bounds from the 50 was removed, the receiving team alignment in the setup zone changed, League personnel can now consult on-field officials over disqualifications, and there is a one-year contingency for correcting clear officiating errors during a referees work stoppage. Full text is in the NFL Approved Playing Rules summary for 2026.
Schedule and bye weeks checked 2 November 2026.
Where Can You Bet on NFL Games in Canada?
There are two routes. In Ontario and Alberta you can use a sportsbook registered with the province. Everywhere else the regulated route is the provincial service, and alongside it a number of offshore books accept Canadian players without being regulated here.
The four below are the offshore books we have working sportsbook links for and have checked against their own NFL pages. The regulated Canadian options are covered in the legal section.
NFL Sportsbook Comparison
| Sportsbook | NFL markets we verified | Player props | Same-game parlay | Interac |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ozoon | Spreads, moneylines, totals, quarter and half lines, live odds | Passing and rushing yards, receptions, receiving yards, anytime touchdown | Yes, Prop Builder and Same Game Parlay | Yes |
| Everygame | Spreads, totals, moneylines, first-half markets, teasers | Touchdown scorers, season props, a weekly props rotation | Not documented | No, crypto-led |
| BetUS | Game lines, halves, quarters, team win totals, teasers and pleasers | Covered in its published football rules | Not documented | No |
| 22Bet | Moneyline, totals and handicap per game, separate futures board | Not listed on the NFL board we checked | Not documented | No |
None of the four is regulated in a Canadian province, so none of them carries a provincial complaint route. Where a cell says not documented, it means we could not find the market stated on that operator’s own NFL pages or rules — not that it is certainly absent.
Ozoon — The Deepest NFL Menu of the Four
Ozoon runs a dedicated NFL page with spreads, moneylines, over/unders, quarter and half lines and live odds. Player props cover passing yards, rushing attempts, receptions, receiving yards and anytime touchdown scorers, and it is the only book on this page that documents both a Prop Builder and a Same Game Parlay.
It is also the only one here with Interac e-Transfer in and out, so a Canadian bettor is not paying a conversion spread on every deposit and withdrawal. Futures run through to Super Bowl odds.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Prop Builder and Same Game Parlay | Offshore-licensed, so no provincial recourse |
| Player props across all the yardage categories | Settlement rules are less granular than BetUS publishes |
| Interac e-Transfer deposits and withdrawals | |
| Quarter and half lines plus live betting |
Everygame — Weekly Props and Award Futures
Everygame carries NFL lines with spread, total and moneyline, first-half markets, touchdown scorers, season props, player props and a weekly props menu, plus NFL award futures and teaser betting from the bet slip.
The weekly props rotation is the differentiator here — it refreshes through the season rather than sitting static, which gives you more to work with in a given week than a fixed board.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Weekly props refreshed through the season | Pleasers not documented |
| Touchdown scorer and season prop markets | No Interac — crypto-led banking |
| NFL award futures | Offshore-licensed, so no provincial recourse |
| Teaser betting available on the bet slip |
BetUS — Pleasers and Season-Long Team Totals
BetUS publishes full football rules covering teasers and pleasers from 2 to 8 points, alongside game lines, halves, quarters and NFL team win totals.
Its rules are unusually explicit about settlement: 55 minutes for action, first half must complete in full, quarters must complete in full, and overtime counts toward sides, totals, moneylines and second-half wagers but not the fourth quarter.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Pleasers from 2 to 8 points | 4th quarter market excludes overtime |
| Teasers and standard game lines | No action if the venue changes |
| NFL team win totals, with rescheduled games counting | Offshore-licensed, so no provincial recourse |
| Settlement rules clearly published |
22Bet — Game Lines and a Second Price
22Bet carries the NFL inside its American Football section with moneyline, totals and handicap on each game, and a separate long-term board for futures. It is the thinnest NFL menu of the four — we did not find player props on the NFL board we checked — but the odds display switches between American, decimal, fractional and four other formats.
Treat it as a line-shopping book rather than a main account. A spread at -110 somewhere and -115 here are different bets, and over a season that gap is worth more than most people assume.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Every NFL fixture priced | No player props on the NFL board we checked |
| Seven odds formats, American included | Offshore-licensed, so no provincial recourse |
| Separate long-term futures board | No Interac |
| Useful for comparing a number before you take it |
How We Compared Them
Every row above was read off each sportsbook’s own NFL pages and published rules on 2 November 2026, from a Canadian connection, rather than copied from other affiliate lists. Market menus change during a season, so a claim here is a snapshot of that date.
We rank on market depth, how clearly settlement rules are published, payment options that work from Canada, and whether a Canadian can open and fund an account at all. We do not rank on bonus size.
Two books with deeper NFL menus are missing on purpose. BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag carry teasers in every size, pleasers, round robins, if bets, action reverses, buying points and same-game parlays, but our links for both currently land on their poker pages, so they are not among the operators we send you to. Links on this page are affiliate links and we may be paid if you open an account; that does not change what we report, and our editorial policy sets out how the two are kept apart.
How Do NFL Betting Odds Work?
NFL odds are posted in American format at every book on this page. A negative number is the favourite and tells you what you must stake to win C$100. A positive number is the underdog and tells you what C$100 returns in profit. Everything else on an NFL board is built on those two numbers.
NFL Moneyline Betting
A moneyline bet picks the winner outright, with no points involved. Kansas City at -150 means a C$150 stake wins C$100 profit. An underdog at +130 means C$100 wins C$130. Overtime counts toward the result at every book we checked.
NFL Point Spread Betting
The spread hands one side a margin to overcome. Buffalo at -3.5 has to win by four or more. The other side at +3.5 covers by winning outright or losing by three or fewer. A half-point spread cannot push. A whole number can: Buffalo -3 against a three-point win is a push, and the stake comes back.
NFL Over/Under Betting
The total is the two teams’ combined score. At 47.5, an over bet needs 48 points or more between them, regardless of who wins. Full-game totals include overtime everywhere we checked, which is worth remembering on a number that sits close.
| NFL bet | Example line | What the bet needs |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Kansas City -150 | Kansas City wins the game |
| Point spread | Buffalo -3.5 (-110) | Buffalo wins by four points or more |
| Total | Over 47.5 (-110) | The two teams combine for 48 points or more |
| Player prop | Quarterback over 249.5 passing yards | That quarterback finishes with 250 or more |
| Anytime touchdown | A receiver at +175 | That receiver scores at any point, under the book’s market rules |
Illustrative lines. They are not current prices at any operator.
What -110 Actually Means
-110 is the standard price on NFL spreads and totals. You stake C$110 to win C$100 profit, and a winning bet returns C$210 including the stake. The break-even rate it implies is 110 divided by 210, or about 52.38%: you need to win more than that share of your bets at this price just to come out level.
That is why a line offered at -105 or -115 is not the same bet as the one at -110. At -115 the break-even rate rises to about 53.49%. The game has not changed; the price you are paying has.
How to Bet on NFL Games in Canada
If this is your first NFL bet, the sequence below is the whole of it. The advanced sections further down are for later.
-
Check what is available in your province
Ontario and Alberta have registered commercial sportsbooks. Other provinces run betting through the provincial service. Our provincial guides set out what each one allows.
-
Open the NFL section
NFL markets sit under Football at most books. Out of season the league may only appear under Futures.
-
Pick a game and a market
Moneyline, spread and total are the three starting points. Props and parlays can wait until those make sense.
-
Compare the same line at two books
A spread of -3.5 at -110 and the same spread at -115 are different bets. On a league this heavily priced, the gap between books is usually small and usually worth taking.
-
Enter a stake and read the return
The bet slip shows the return as you type. Check it against the price you thought you were taking before you confirm — NFL lines move fast on Sunday mornings.
-
Keep a record of the number you took
Settlement disputes almost always come down to what the line was when the bet was placed. A screenshot costs nothing.
How Much Does a C$100 NFL Bet Pay?
| Odds | Stake | Profit | Total return |
|---|---|---|---|
| +150 | C$100 | C$150 | C$250 |
| -110 | C$100 | C$90.91 | C$190.91 |
| -150 | C$100 | C$66.67 | C$166.67 |
| +250 | C$100 | C$250 | C$350 |
The arithmetic is the same in any currency. What is specific to Canada is whether those dollars are actually Canadian dollars: a book that settles in USD applies a conversion spread on the way in and again on the way out, and that cost never shows up in an odds comparison.
What NFL Betting Markets Are Available in Canada?
Which of these you get depends on the book, not on the league. The table is the shape of a full NFL menu, and the comparison above says who carries what.
| Market group | What sits inside it |
|---|---|
| Game betting | Moneyline, point spread, over/under total |
| Period markets | First half, second half, individual quarters |
| Player props | Passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions, touchdown scorers |
| Parlays | Traditional parlays, same-game parlays, round robins |
| Live betting | In-play moneyline, spread and total, plus selected props |
| Futures | Super Bowl, conference and division winners, team win totals, season awards |
Same-Game Parlays
A same-game parlay combines several selections from one game onto a single ticket. Every leg has to come in, and because the legs are correlated — a quarterback going over his passing yards and his team covering tend to happen together — the book prices the combination rather than multiplying the individual odds.
Which combinations are allowed, how correlated legs are priced, and what happens when one leg is voided all vary by operator. Of the four books here, Ozoon is the one that documents both a Same Game Parlay and a Prop Builder.
Player Props and Anytime Touchdown Scorers
Props move the bet off the result and onto one player’s numbers. The standard NFL set is passing, rushing and receiving yards, receptions, and touchdown scorers. Anytime touchdown is the most popular of them: it pays if your player reaches the end zone at any point, and most books settle it on rushing and receiving touchdowns only, so a quarterback sneak counts while a passing touchdown does not credit the thrower.
Prop boards are thinner than they look on a Tuesday and deepest on the Sunday slate and for nationally televised games. Read the market rule rather than assuming — the definition of what scores is where props are won and lost.
Live Betting
Live markets reprice the game as it goes. A turnover inside the ten, a quarterback limping off, a weather delay: each one moves the number within seconds. One thing to watch on the NFL specifically is that a live fourth-quarter market can settle differently from the same pre-game market — the settlement section has the detail.
How NFL Key Numbers Affect Point Spreads
NFL margins cluster. Three and seven are by far the most common, because of the field goal and the touchdown plus extra point. That clustering is why -2.5 and -3.5 are not remotely the same bet even though they look half a point apart.
Sportsbooks price that in, and some publish the schedule. BetOnline’s buying-points rules set it out for the NFL: up to two points may be bought, an ordinary half point adds 10 cents of juice, a half point in or out of 7 adds 15 cents, and a half point through 3 adds 25 cents. Checked 2 November 2026.
| Moving the line | Juice added | A -110 price becomes |
|---|---|---|
| Any ordinary half point | 10 cents | about -120 |
| A half point in or out of 7 | 15 cents | about -125 |
| A half point through 3 | 25 cents | about -135 |
What That Price Actually Costs You
Twenty-five cents is not a 25% cost and it does not require a 25% edge. It is a move in the price, and the honest way to read it is through the break-even rate.
At -110 you need to win about 52.38% of your bets to break even. At -135 you need about 57.45%. Buying that half point through 3 therefore raises your break-even rate by roughly 5.1 percentage points. The question is whether the half point converts more than 5.1% of your three-point games — not whether you have a 25% edge.
Illustrative figures based on the published increments above, not a live quote, and not a claim that the purchase is profitable.
Buying Off 3 and Buying Onto 3 Are Different Bets
The same half point does two different jobs depending on which way you move it, and most guides treat them as one.
Moving a favourite from -3.5 to -3 turns a three-point win into a push: a losing ticket becomes a refunded one. Moving from -3 to -2.5 turns that same three-point win into a winner: a push becomes a payout. The first buys back your stake, the second buys the profit. They are priced the same and they are not worth the same, so decide which outcome you are actually paying for before you take it.
How NFL Teasers and Pleasers Work
Teasers Move the Line Toward You
A teaser lets you shift the spread in your favour across two or more selections in exchange for a shorter price. The standard football sizes are 6, 6.5, 7 and 7.5 points, with books also offering 10 and 13-point specials and a 21-point version unique to football.
The reason teasers are interesting in the NFL specifically is the key numbers above: a six-point teaser that takes a favourite from -7.5 to -1.5, or an underdog from +1.5 to +7.5, crosses both 3 and 7. Bettors call that a Wong teaser, after Stanford Wong. Worth knowing that this is bettor jargon, not a market any sportsbook defines — you build it yourself out of an ordinary teaser.
Push rules differ sharply and this is where money is lost. At one offshore book, a push on a two-team Vegas teaser is refunded, a push on a three to seven-team teaser drops it down a level, and on the special and 21-point versions a push counts as a loss outright. At bet365 the treatment is different again: a push reduces the teaser to a parlay on the remaining selections at the odds taken, and if only one selection is left it pays as a single. Read your book’s rule before you build one.
Pleasers Move the Line Against You
A pleaser is the inverse: you shift the spread in the house’s favour and get a much bigger price for it. Football pleasers run from 2 to 8 points. Taking a -3 favourite to -9 and getting paid accordingly.
They are brutal and they are honest about it. Push handling is also harsher — with three or more selections a push reduces the number of plays, and on a two-team pleaser a push makes the whole thing a push unless the other leg already lost.
How Sportsbooks Settle NFL Bets
Two identical-looking tickets at two books can settle differently. These are the three places it happens on the NFL, read off each operator’s published rules on 2 November 2026. Rules can differ by jurisdiction and by when the bet was placed, so treat this as a prompt to check your own book rather than a guarantee.
Overtime: Where the Books Disagree
Full-game sides, moneylines and totals include overtime at every book we checked, and so do second-half markets — which surprises people, because a second half that runs into overtime is still a second half as far as the rules are concerned. The fourth quarter is where they split.
| Book | Full game and second half | Fourth quarter |
|---|---|---|
| BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag | Overtime included | Excluded pre-game, but included on live fourth-quarter wagers |
| BetUS | Overtime included | Excluded |
| bet365 | Overtime included | Included unless the market states otherwise |
Props split too. At the offshore books, overtime is excluded from double result, highest scoring half and highest scoring quarter, but included in make field goal, first scoring play and winning margin. That is a market-by-market rule, not a book-wide policy, so a book’s general football terms will not tell you how a particular prop settles.
Shortened, Postponed and Relocated Games
All three books we checked agree on one point: a football game must reach 55 minutes of play for bets to have action. Called before that, and the market is graded no action. On date and venue they do not agree at all.
| Book | Postponed game | Venue change |
|---|---|---|
| BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag | No action unless played on the scheduled date | No action if the game moves from the original intended venue |
| BetUS | No action unless played on the scheduled date | No action if the venue changes, though rescheduled games still count toward team win totals |
| bet365 | Stands if played within the same weekly schedule, Thursday to Wednesday in the stadium’s local time, and an interrupted game resumed within 48 hours keeps bets alive | Stands provided the home team is still designated home. No action if home and away are reversed. Neutral-venue games stand regardless of how they are listed |
The practical upshot is blunt: if a game is moved, the same ticket can stand at one book and be voided at another.
An International Game Is Not a Relocated Game
This is worth separating, because plenty of guides run the two together. A game scheduled at Bernabéu, Allianz Arena or Estadio Azteca is being played at its originally scheduled venue. It is an international fixture, not a relocation, and the venue-change rules above do not apply to it just because it is outside the United States.
Relocation rules bite when a game moves away from the venue it was scheduled at — weather, a stadium problem, a civil emergency. Those can happen in any week of any season and have nothing to do with how many games the league plays abroad. What the international slate does change is the neutral-venue question: bet365 states explicitly that bets on games scheduled at a neutral venue stand regardless of how the game is listed, which is a rule worth knowing in a week with a game in Madrid or Munich.
NFL Futures and Super Bowl Betting
Futures are bets on how the season ends rather than how a game does. They stay open for months, which means the price you take is as much a decision as the pick.
| Futures market | What it settles on |
|---|---|
| Super Bowl winner | The team that wins Super Bowl LXI on 14 February 2027 |
| Conference winner | The AFC and NFC champions, decided on 31 January |
| Division winner | First place in each of the eight divisions |
| Number one seed | The only seed in each conference that gets a first-round bye |
| Team win totals | Whether a team finishes above or below a posted number of regular-season wins |
| Season awards | MVP, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year |
Two things are specific to futures and catch people out. The first is that your money is tied up until the market settles, which for a Super Bowl ticket bought in November means three months. The second is settlement on team win totals: BetUS states that rescheduled games still count toward them, which matters in a season with games abroad and a December weather calendar.
The number one seed market is the one the playoff format creates. Fourteen teams qualify, but only the top seed in each conference sits out the first weekend, so that bye is worth more than the seeding below it suggests.
Is NFL Betting Legal in Canada?
Single-event sports betting has been legal across Canada since 2021, but each province decides how it is delivered. Two of them run commercial markets where operators register with the province. The rest deliver betting through the provincial service.
| Province or territory | How betting is delivered | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | A regulated commercial market alongside the provincial service, with operators registered through iGaming Ontario | Ontario betting guide |
| Alberta | A regulated commercial market since 13 July 2026, regulated by AGLC and conducted by the Alberta iGaming Corporation | Alberta betting guide |
| Quebec | Provincial service | Quebec betting guide |
| British Columbia | Provincial service | British Columbia betting guide |
| Manitoba and Saskatchewan | Provincial services | Manitoba and Saskatchewan |
| Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada | Provincial service | Nova Scotia betting guide |
The minimum age is 19 in most of the country and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. That is the age the operator verifies at sign-up, whichever route you use.
Accessible Is Not the Same as Regulated
Accessible means a sportsbook will open an account for you. Regulated in your province means a provincial body oversees it and provides a route if a payout is disputed. A book can be the first without being the second, and the difference only becomes visible when something goes wrong.
In Ontario, bet365, Betway, PowerPlay, Sports Interaction and TonyBet are on the iGaming Ontario register. bet365 also publishes the most complete NFL rules of anyone we checked — team and player props, scorecasts and wincasts, season markets, futures, teasers and in-play drives — and has the most forgiving postponement rule of the books in the tables above. We do not describe a sportsbook as licensed in a province unless that registration appears on the provincial regulator’s own public list. Our provincial guides set out what is available where you live.
Are NFL Betting Winnings Taxed in Canada?
For a recreational bettor, generally not. The Canada Revenue Agency treats gambling winnings as a windfall rather than income, and its own guidance says that gambling, even regular, frequent and systematic gambling, is not generally regarded as a commercial activity except in very exceptional circumstances.
The exception is someone operating as a business: applying inside information, special knowledge and skill, organised, intending to live off it. That is a narrower category than people assume, and whether it applies turns on the facts of an individual case. Interest earned on winnings once they are sitting in an account is taxable in the ordinary way. This is general information, not tax advice — for anything near the line, check the CRA guidance or an accountant.
CAD Payments and Interac
Interac e-Transfer is the payment rail most Canadians want, and whether a book offers it is an operator-by-operator question rather than a rule about offshore books. Of the four in the comparison above, Ozoon is the one that takes Interac in and out. Everygame leads with crypto rails, and BetUS and 22Bet did not list Interac on the pages we checked.
Where a book settles in USD rather than CAD, a conversion spread applies on every deposit and every withdrawal. Over a season that is a real cost, and it never appears in an odds comparison.
Responsible NFL Betting in Canada
The NFL is the easiest league in the world to over-bet. One slate a week, every game televised, and a market on everything. The structure itself encourages treating Sunday as a card rather than a game.
Decide your weekly number in September, not in December. Teasers and pleasers in particular are built to feel like a smarter bet than they are — the shorter price on a teaser and the longer price on a pleaser are both the house pricing your optimism.
The legal age is 19 in most of Canada and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Our responsible gambling page lists the provincial helplines, all free and confidential.
NFL Betting FAQ
Where can I bet on NFL games in Canada?
Through your provincial betting service, through an operator registered in your province where a commercial market exists, or through an offshore sportsbook that accepts Canadian players. Ontario and Alberta both run regulated commercial markets; most other provinces deliver betting through the provincial service. The four offshore books we have checked and link to are Ozoon, Everygame, BetUS and 22Bet.
What are the best NFL betting sites in Canada?
It depends what you bet. Of the four offshore books we checked, Ozoon has the deepest NFL menu and the only Interac banking, Everygame has the weekly props rotation and award futures, BetUS publishes the clearest settlement rules and carries pleasers, and 22Bet is useful as a second price. In Ontario and Alberta, the registered commercial books are a separate category with provincial recourse behind them.
How do NFL betting odds work?
NFL odds are posted in American format. A negative number is the favourite and shows what you stake to win C$100. A positive number is the underdog and shows what C$100 returns in profit. Spreads and totals are usually priced near -110 on both sides.
What does -110 mean in NFL betting?
You stake C$110 to win C$100 in profit, and a winning bet returns C$210 including the stake. The implied break-even rate is about 52.38%, so you need to win more than that share of bets at this price to come out level.
How does an NFL point spread work?
The spread is a margin handicap. A favourite at -3.5 must win by four or more to cover. The underdog at +3.5 covers by winning outright or losing by three or fewer. A half-point spread cannot push; a whole number can, and a push returns the stake.
Can you bet on NFL player props in Canada?
Yes, at most books. The standard set is passing, rushing and receiving yards, receptions and touchdown scorers. Ozoon lists all of those plus anytime touchdown scorers, and Everygame runs a weekly props rotation. Depth varies by book and is widest on the Sunday slate and nationally televised games.
What is an NFL same-game parlay?
A same-game parlay combines several selections from one game onto a single ticket, and every leg must win. Because the legs are correlated, the sportsbook prices the combination rather than multiplying the individual odds. Which combinations are allowed, and what happens when a leg is voided, varies by operator.
Can you bet on the Super Bowl in Canada?
Yes. Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium, and futures on the winner are open all season alongside conference and division markets. Game-day prop boards are the widest of any single event in North American sport.
Do NFL bets include overtime?
For full-game sides, moneylines, totals and second-half markets, yes at every book we checked. The fourth quarter is where books disagree: BetUS excludes it, BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag exclude it pre-game but include it on live fourth-quarter wagers, and bet365 includes it unless a market says otherwise.
Is NFL betting legal in Ontario?
Yes. Ontario runs a regulated commercial market through iGaming Ontario alongside the provincial service, and bet365, Betway, PowerPlay, Sports Interaction and TonyBet are among the operators on its register. Offshore books may still accept Ontario players, but they are not registered there and carry no provincial complaint route.
Are NFL betting winnings taxable in Canada?
For recreational bettors, generally not. The CRA treats gambling winnings as a windfall rather than income. The exception is betting carried on as a business, which is a narrower category than people assume and turns on the facts. Interest earned on the winnings afterwards is taxable. This is general information, not tax advice.
Why does a half point from -3.5 to -3 cost more than other half points?
Because three is the most common NFL margin. BetOnline’s published rules add 10 cents of juice for an ordinary half point, 15 cents in or out of 7 and 25 cents through 3. On a -110 price that last one moves you to roughly -135, which raises your break-even rate from about 52.38% to about 57.45% — a shift of roughly 5.1 percentage points, not a 25% cost.
Is buying off 3 the same as buying onto 3?
No. Moving a favourite from -3.5 to -3 turns a three-point win into a push, so a loss becomes a refund. Moving from -3 to -2.5 turns that same result into a winner, so a push becomes a payout. The price is the same and the outcome you are buying is not.
What is an NFL teaser?
A multi-selection bet where you move each spread in your favour, usually 6, 6.5, 7 or 7.5 points in football, in exchange for a shorter price. Push rules vary sharply between books, so read yours before you build one.
What is a Wong teaser?
Bettor jargon rather than a market any sportsbook defines. It describes a two-team six-point teaser built on favourites of -7.5 to -8.5 and underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5, so that every leg crosses both 3 and 7. You build it yourself out of an ordinary teaser.
What is a pleaser?
The reverse of a teaser: you move the spread against yourself, typically 2 to 8 points in football, and get a much larger price. Push handling is harsher than on teasers, and on a two-team pleaser a push can make the whole ticket a push.
What happens if an NFL game is postponed or moved?
It depends entirely on the book. BetOnline, SportsBetting.ag and BetUS all void bets if the game is not played at the original venue or on the scheduled date. bet365 keeps bets alive if the game is played within the same Thursday-to-Wednesday weekly schedule and the home team is still designated home. All three require 55 minutes of play for any action. A game scheduled abroad is not a relocation, so those rules do not apply to it.
How many teams make the NFL playoffs?
Fourteen, seven per conference: four division winners and three wild cards. Only the number one seed in each conference gets a first-round bye, which is why that seed has a futures market of its own.
Summary
NFL bettors need to read two things at once: the price and the rulebook behind it. A point spread, a teaser price, an overtime policy and a postponement clause can each change the outcome or the payout of what looks like the same wager at two different books.
Start with the three markets that carry most NFL betting — moneyline, spread and total — and with what the price implies: -110 is a 52.38% break-even rate, not a coin flip. From there, the half point through 3 costs 25 cents of juice and raises that break-even by about five points, the fourth quarter includes overtime at some books and not others, and a moved game can stand at bet365 and be voided at BetUS.
From Canada specifically: winnings are generally treated as a windfall rather than income, Ontario and Alberta both run regulated commercial markets, and of the offshore books here only Ozoon takes Interac. For what is legal where you live, see our sports betting guide and our provincial guides.
